Category “K” Visas

They are also commonly referred to as “fiancé(e)” visas.

This visa can be obtained if a U.S. citizen petitions for their foreign fiancée or foreign fiancé with the purpose of entering into marriage and starting a family.

In the event that the marriage is not concluded within 90 days, those who entered the country on “K” category visas must leave before the visa expires. Foreigners admitted to the United States on these visas do not have the right to apply for a change of their “K” status to any other status while in the United States, unless they have married the U.S. citizen who petitioned for this visa on their behalf.
